DITO Telecommunity’s Tulung Tulong DITO Volunteers Plant 1,000 Bamboo Seedlings to Help Restore Landslide-Prone Area in Mt. Arayat Protected Area
25 November 2024Arayat, Pampanga – Nov 8, 2024 – DITO Telecommunity successfully planted 1,000 bamboo seedlings in a landslide-prone area of the Protected Area of Mt. Arayat in Brgy. San Juan Baño, Treehouse, Arayat, Pampanga. This initiative is part of DITO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to help mitigate environmental risks and promote sustainable practices in local communities.
The tree planting activity took place in a site that was severely impacted by a landslide during Typhoon Ondoy in 2012. The devastating disaster claimed the lives of 12 individuals who were tragically caught in the path of the landslide. Over a decade later, this event remains a poignant reminder of the importance of disaster risk reduction, environmental conservation, and community resilience.
“Today’s tree planting is not just an act of environmental stewardship; it is an investment in the future of our communities. By planting trees, we strengthen our ecosystems, reduce risks from natural disasters, and create a healthier, more sustainable environment for generations to come,” said Eric R. Alberto, DITO CEO.
The bamboo seedlings, known for their strength, resilience and rapid growth, are considered an ideal choice for stabilizing soil and preventing erosion in landslide-prone areas.
The event was a collaborative effort, with participation from various stakeholders, including DENR Members, Barangay Officials from Brgy. San Juan Baño, upland farmers and AFP Personnel from the 70th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
DITO Telecommunity continues to advocate for corporate social responsibility through initiatives aimed at improving environmental sustainability, supporting local communities, and fostering positive change.
